Chkdsk Error

Hi
I'm trying to run Chkdsk /f from the command prompt and
get the error
"The type of system is NTFS. Cannot lock current
drive.""Chkdsk canot run because the volume is in use by
another process. Would you like to schedule this to run
at start up?"

If I do this each time I turn on the PC Chkdsk starts
again and tells me I've got errors.I can't run defrag as
it complains that chkdsk is scheduled to run. Am I stuck
in an endless loop?

I've tried to create a boot disk to run but to no avail.
Also tried the switches /C /R /X all won't work.

Pleeeeese help
