chkdsk - endless restart loop

I have a Win2K Pro laptop that keeps running chkdsk on
startup, then rebooting and running it again. It happens
over and over - never actual booting to the OS. I can
start it in Safe Mode, but I'm not seeing anything very
telling in the Event Viewer. Last Known Good won't work,
either. Its a PIII 800, 128 MB of RAM with a 20 GB hard
drive. Anyone ever seen this before? Thanks!

Check Event Viewer for errors and anything related to the chkdsk results.

Try:

Use regedit to navigate to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager

right click BootExecute and select modify - enter "autocheck autochk*"

What happens if you modify Doug's advice and delete the "autocheck
autochk"?
