checkdisk frozen

'I have run a check disk on an external hard drive.....it has complete 4 of 5
section including replacing bad sectors, but i have found it has hung on the
last section 'verifying free space' shows 0 percent complete. and its
been like that for about 1 hour !!! any ideas

Try booting to xp cd,recovery,select 1 For C: Press enter key for password,
type:CHKDSK D: /p D: being the external hd.For a repair:CHKDSK D: /R
Type:EXIT When thru.....Also,with any utility/software,if you dont see
results
within a 10-15 min time frame abort the running task,you'll only damage
other pc components.....

i cancelled the chkdsk as it had frozen, restarted pc and ran chkdsk f/ f:
and this worked....
