Checkbox Protection

I've created a document with yes/no questions trying to use a checkbox in
Word2003. However every time I save the document out of design mode, close
the document and reopen, the document opens in design mode. Is there a
setting or a way to save the document so it opens out of design mode so a
user can simply check the box?

Create your form as a template. Protect it. Save. Users should create their
documents from the template, not by duplicating your existing document.

And don't use check boxes from the Controls Toolbox, only from the Forms
toolbar.

You should not have used anything from the Controls Toolbox. There are a
number of ways to create and use clickable checkboxes in documents /
templates. Some require protected or locked forms, others do not. Take a
look at the Checkbox template available at
http://www.addbalance.com/word/download.htm#CheckboxAddIn for an exploration
of these.

If you want to protect a document and use checkboxes from the forms toolbar,
what we are talking about is what Word calls an "online form." Check this in
help. For more about online forms, follow the links at
http://addbalance.com/word/wordwebresources.htm#Forms or
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/FillinTheBlanks.htm especially Dian
Chapman's series of articles. You may also want to look at

Hope this helps,

I see the suggestions for using the checkbox from the form menu. That's fine
and how I resolved the problem. But, what good is the checkbox from the
control menu? When is use of this checkbox recommended?

Those controls can be used in UserForms.

They are used in programming. While you can put them in a document, they are
seldom necessary and really complicate things.
