Character map location

I used to see character map among the other system tools in the accessory
folder. Now I don't. I know it is somewhere on my computer because I can invoke
it with another software program. So I'm not sure what happened.

How do I get an icon that points to it? Where is it usually kept in Windows XP
files?

Thanks,

Manny

Perform the following:

1. Right-click on your Desktop and select: NEW > SHORTCUT
2. In the Create Shortcut window, type in: CHARMAP.EXE , and click "Next"
3. In the next window, type in: Character Map , and click "Finish"
4. A Character Map shortcut icon should appear on your Desktop.

You can also uninstall/reinstall Character Map by going to:

Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Components >
Accessories and Utilities > Details > Accessories > Details > Character Map

he first worked like a charm, and I've got my working icon on the desktop. For
some unknown reason I could not do it through Control Panel. Everything is
checked correctly there.Anyhow, no more problem

Thanks, Nicholas

It is windows\system32\charmap.exe

R-drag to the desktop, Create Shortcut. R-click and rename that to
something convenient, drag it into the Start Menu - All Programs at any
point you like (or if you use it a lot into the Quick Launch bar)
