Changing Title Bar text on IE and OE

S

smithdoerr

I was wondering how to change the text in the title bar across the top of
Internet Explorer and Outlook Express. When I recently changed my ISP the
text was changed to:

"Outlook Express provided by..."
"Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by..."
and then my ISP's name.

I find this rather tacky and would like to change it to something else but
haven't figured out how. So far I have checked Options and Help for both OE
and IE as well as Internet Options in the XP control panel with no luck.
Any help appreciated.

Click Start | Run | and type the following commands one by one: and press
Enter

"Rundll32 IedkCS32.dll,BrandCleanInstallStubs"
"Rundll32 IedkCS32.dll, Clear"

Both commands does the same almost. The first one also resets "Windows
Update Menu Text" in IE.

For IE Open regedit, navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Scroll down on the right to Window Title, right click, select modify and
type in whatever you want.

For OE, open regedit, go to
For OE, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{GUID (long number)}
\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0
Scroll down on the right to Window Title, right click, select modify and
type in whatever you want.

If these keys don't exist under Current User, check the same key under Local
Machine.

Thanks. That fixed Internet Explorer

Thanks Ramesh and sli! Just one of those minor annoyances that had been
bugging me for a while.

Hi,

Start/run regedit,

For IE, navigate to this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

In the right pane. look for a string that reads Window Title, double click
it to change the name.

If it doesn't exist, right-click in the right pane and select new-->string.
Call it Window Title, then double click it and put whatever you wish to have
it called in the value line. Deleting this string will remove any branding
and leave you with just Microsoft Internet Explorer.

For OE, it's basically the same, but it's located here:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{GUID}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0

The GUID part differs from machine to machine, and there may be more than
one, so you will have to search a bit. The only other difference is that the
string is called Windowtitle with no space between the words.

Close regedit and open new IE window, the change should be immediate.
