Changing folder icon in regedit

Guest

Whenever I do a search in the registry (regedit), I have difficulty seeing
the 'open' folder icon. Years ago, I found a program (probably an icon
editor), where I was able to edit the open folder icon by changing the color
to RED, to readily distinguish it.

Been searching high and low for this particular program, to no avail. Kinda
hoping that someone can point me in the right direction. This could have been
in an earlier version of Windows, but sure hope I can use it in XP.
Thanks in advance . . . . frank

Ahh.... I remember doing that in Win95 last millennium and had
forgotten how easy it made it.
I think I used MicroAngelo but I don't have it anymore and it is now
quite expensive.
I have lost touch with what is available in icon editors or resource
editors but you may care to try this:
Resource Hacker http://www.snapfiles.com/get/resourcehacker.html
Try it on a copy of Regedit.exe first.

If unsure, let me know and I will try it myself.

I too, used MicroAngelo, and a few other good editors, but specifically
remember how difficult it was to find the file in which the Open Folder icon
was located, since they can be in many files - .exe, .ico, .dll, .icl etc
etc. Thanks for the quick comeback

No, it is not difficult to find. The Open Folder for Regedit.exe is in
Regedit.exe only.

Am confused, but is ok....this happens often.

As per the original post, to some locating the open folder via the left pane
can be questioning at first. That said, once you recognize what you are
looking for, all is well from there on.

Thought yall guys had a new trick to expose!(

Hi SK (with 2)

No, nothing new. This is very old stuff.
The original post was (as far as I know) dealing with the problem in
Regedit where it was difficult to see the open folder.
It is still a good option.

Ahhh! Oops ! - Sorry Alan. Looks like I goofed.
I was unable to connect to the snapfiles site you had suggested, and didn't
realize it was the same application that I received from the other forum.
I did get your suggested program from the Resource Hacker homepage at
Angusj.com.
I want to apologize for the mix-up, and personally Thank You for pointing me
in the right direction. Hope this puts me back in your good graces.
Sorry . . . . . frank

Thanks for the clarification.
Glad Resource Hacker was of use. I may try it myself.
I downloaded it from the snapfiles site when I gave you the link, so
they must have had a problem later.
