Mohammed

Hi All,

I had created a domain without any extension (ex: xyz
domain instead of xyz.com or else)..... Every think is
working fine but we are facing problems when we are
installing oracle ERP software 11.5.9 Oracle corporation
is saying need any prefix to domain like (ex: xyz.com or
xyz.anything).....

In my network already additional domain controllers are
there and even cluster also exitsts...

If I demote the main primary domain and recreate the
active directory with same name domain but with .com or
xyz.com).....my major concerns what will happened to
exisitng additional domain controller and specially there
two server which are cluster ......i had to rejoing them
to domain .....

Thanks & Regards
Mohammed

In order to rename a Win 2k domain you have to remove AD from all AD DCs
after adding a NT 4.0 BDC to the domain. Promote the BDC to PDC then start
over again. The BDC is there to hold your user accounts while you blow away
all Win 2k DCs (which removes the user accounts).

If you're in Native mode - then you can't change the domain name unless you
upgrade to Windows Server 2003. If you have Exhange on the network
rendom.exe won't work. And you should know that renaming a domain is not a
task you should take light upon, even if there is a tool in Windows Server
2003.

If you're in mixed mode, see this article:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q292541

You can define new UPN suffixes in AD Domains and Trusts snap-in, but you'll
need to change your current users to use it. This way users will believe
that you've renamed your AD and in most cases that's sufficient.
