Change Letter Color after animation

K

Kim

I'm using PP 2007. I'm trying to change the color of individual letters in a
word after they've entered (via animation) a slide. i.e. Given: 'BOARD
AGENDA' I would like to change the color of letters "B O R E D" only. I've
tried to make each letter a text box, and stack the letters but it seems
cumersome and I just can't get the letters to line up correctly. It looks
like exactly like what it is ......... a rube-goldberg.

Any ideas on how to make this a little more professional looking?

Thanks for your help,

When you're overlaying letters like that, it's hard. I found this out the
hard way -- that is, trying to do something similar to what you are doing!

It turns out that PPT does some text spacing when you type more than one
letter into a textbox, and you can't really control it. I think you'll need
to create the underlying text as individual textboxes so that when you
animate in individual textboxes (of a different color), they can align
exactly.

You can use the alignment tools or the arrows on your keyboard (turning off
Snap to Grid or pressing Ctrl to override the grid) to place the top layer
of letters.

Hi Echo,

If I didn't know better I'd say you've been looking over my shoulder for the
last week or so............... Nice to know you've listed the same steps I've
been messing with.

I'll try stacking text boxes again trying Align or some such thing. Gotta
be a way.......

Thanks again,

Kim

Yeah, I think the important thing that can trip you up on this type of thing
is the uncontrollable spacing. You won't be able to align, for example, a
single word on top of a textbox that includes that word in a sentence ...
because the individual word's spacing will be different than the spacing in
the word in the sentence textbox.

It's maddening, I know!

In your case, it's letters. But it may be hard to align them on top of a box
with the whole word.

At any rate, just be sure to check them in slide show view. Hm. What if you
make the "highlighted" letters bold as well as colored? That would make them
bolder and bigger so they'd cover the original letters.

As Echo says aligning letters is next to impossible.

I've had more success when I duplicate the whole textbox , change the letter
colors on the dupe and give the colored version an animation of wipe from top
medium and the original a disappear after previous

Then align the two text boxes with the duplicate in front.

I've uploaded a simple demo if this doesn't make sense!

Oh, that makes sense. I vaguely recall I tried something similar but it
didn't work well for my situation. I think I was trying to highlight just a
word or two out of a whole "paragraph" of text. Like a quote or
something....

What a great workaround for shorter bits, though!

Thanks John,

It does make sense. I overlooked the "disappear" piece. I'll give it a
try. My immediate concern is I'm changing (in my example) the "B" after
'BOARD AGENDA' has been wiped across. But it'll be something to futz around
with.

Thanks for the new approach.......

Upon further review......and looking at your demo.......I understand a little
more. I may have to change my approach (a letter at a time vs. your entire
textbox) but this may be the answer I've been looking for........thanks!
