Change from Nvidia to ATI

D

Dr Richard Cranium

you could do a search on nvidea in the registry, followed by a liberal deletion of
everything nvidea.
Delete nvidea components from the system32 folder.

i would (and did) start with the CD drivers that came with the card. Then I went to the
ATI website and DL'ed the current drivers.

To bad Nvidea doesn't have the stand alone exe that removes all the nvidea components from
the registry and system32 like ATI does offer at their ATI website. The definitive ATI
removal tool from ATI.

** you should be able to just change your Nvidea to standard vga and that should remove
most nvidea from being a
nuisance. Remember once you switch to the vga driver, don't let the PC reboot with the
nvidea still in it or you will get the nvidea plug and played installed again.

so .. change driver to vga, shut off PC on the re-boot (right after windows shuts down
and your screen goes blank).
pull your power plug. swap in your ATI (i have an ATI 9800pro that requires its own power
connection) and then boot up your PC (you know plug back in your PC stuff first). Install
ATI drivers from CD.

Changed from a winfast ti4200 about 6 months ago. Using a 9600 ati pro card.

Satisfied with my stuff...

my 2 cents

Changed from Asus Ti4200 to a Asus FX5200; a bit disappointed.
Then from FX5200 to Sapphire Radeon 9600XT, once more disappointed.

The Asus Ti4200 is still better, and cheaper solution.

At boot up, the Sapphire Radeon takes long time before screen shows
anything.

I am thinking about going for 5700 Ultra, or go back to Asus Ti4200.

Well if you do, i would personally suggest using 3.7 drivers for the ATI
card, and not 3.8,9, or 10.

I may be wrong, but it sure seems that a lot of the people who are having
trouble with ATI's products are the people who are buying the OEM's rather
than the built by ATI cards. I've been using the built by ATI cards and
rarely, if ever, encounter any of the driver problems or weirdness reported
by users in this newsgroup.

Hmm... I had the same kind of problem going from a GeForce Ti 4600 to an
ATI 9700 Pro. Very slow boot up and bad performance. Come to find out
Windows XP was still trying to load up parts of the Nvidia drivers. I tried
getting them out with a driver removal program and didn't work very well.
Ended up doing a clean install and man what a difference. Fast boot up and
running very good.

Hey... upgraded less than a month go Ti4200 > 9800Pro

I did a normal UNINSTALL of the Nvidia drivers... after I upgraded, to
see the effects... the 9800 ran like crap. After removing the Nvidia
drivers - the 9800 flew.

So proper order, uninstall Nvidia drivers - all of them (except your
Mobo if you have an Nforce) and maybe use Detnoator Destoryer.

Step 1: Download latest driver from www.ATI.com Whats in the box may
already be out-dated. Current version is 3.10

Step 2: Uninstall Nvidia drivers

Step 3: Remove old card, use in 2nd PC or sell.... Drop in new card -
make sure computer is OFF... hit master power switch, or unplug.

Step 4: Power up, install new drivers from DL file.

Step 5: Have a cold one and enjoy.

I upgraded from a Ti4200 to a 9800Pro, all I did was close Windows, open PC,
remove Ti4200, plug in 9800Pro, start up windows and installed the drivers.
I didn't have to do anything.

The drivers that came with the card were antiques, so I downloaded the
latest drivers from ati.

I agree, a fresh format and re-install of one's operating systems can make a
big difference.
