Change Domain Utilities

Hello All,

We are in the process of moving our users from a Windows NT 4.0 domain to a
Windows 2003 AD. I hoping to find any utilities that will move our
workstations over to the new domain, and possibly a utility that will move
our user's profile over to the new domain account. We use local profiles.

The NT->2003 upgrade process should move all accounts when you do the
upgrade.

Have you looked at the large number of resources Microsoft has available on
this subject?

As for user profiles - local profiles are local profiles, you cannot migrate
them. In many cases they'll be okay in an upgrade like this but you may
need to manually copy over the ones you need to keep on each computer if
that doesn't work out.

Hi,

My concerns were more from a workstation standpoint, and not the servers. We
are creating a parallel domain instead of migrating systems over. What I was
wondering is if there was possibly a way to move the workstations over to a
new domain remotely. Migrations all seem to just point at the Server
standpoint. I can understand having to move the profiles manually, if the
user doesnt want to have a new one, but as far as moving systems over.. are
there utilities for this? or are do we have to touch ever pc because of the
way we are creating this new domain?

Because of the way you want to do the "upgrade" you'll need to touch each PC
and re-create every account. I would not recommend that you do the
migration in this manner unless there's a very good reason to do so -
instead I would follow the upgrade guide I referenced in the prior posting
to upgrade the domain as it is now.
