Well I went to use my laptop today and there are webpages that will nto open
up at all and it is very annoying. I have looked through everything that I
can for the settings to find out what is wrong but I can not seem to find
anythign at all. I will go into a command window and ping yahoo.com and it
pings with no packets lost but then when I go to www.yahoo.com in IE it
doesnt load up. It just says "The page cannot be displayed". I have no clue
what is wrong. I have tried shutting off the firewall and that didnt help at
all. These is a fairly fresh install of WinXP and there should be nothing
wrong with it at all. Please help!!! THANKS!!!!

Run the edits on line 68 and 155 here

reboot when done.

If this doesn't help check your "hosts" file to see if an entry has been
added.
Unhide files and folders
explore>windows>system32>drivers>etc>hosts,open with notepad
unless you have added websites here yourself the only thing that should be
there is 127.0.0.1 local host
if you see 127.0.0.1 yahoo.com delete that entry and run a spyware
scan.

Depends.....here are some suggestions/checkpoints to consider:

For most users this works:

Lan Settings - Proxy Server - Disable (Line 253)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Manual: IE/Tools/Internet Options/Connections/Lan Settings. Uncheck Use a
proxy server.....

Rename your hosts file: Go to: Windows\System32\DRIVERS\etc.

Repair Loss of Internet Access/Certain Web Sites (155)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Page Cannot be Found and/or DNS/Server Error (Line 68)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Sometimes when I try to go to a page it just says "Internet Explorer could
not open the search page." What does this error mean? I have also tried a
different web browser and that didnt work either. Thanks for the input...know
just keep it coming :)
