ceregedt/etc. tools don't work with VS.NET?

Hi all,

I am using VS.NET 2003 C#, with the smart device programmability and I've
installed the PPC 03 SDK. After I deploy within VS.NET to the PPC03 emulator
(which is successful), I try to use the ceregedt, cefilevw, etc. tools but I
get the error: 'unable to establish a connection with the device.'

However, if VS.NET and the emulator is not running, and I use ceregedt,
etc., it works and starts the emulator just fine. So it seems VS.NET can't
be running at the same time as the ceregedt, etc. tools.

Only now I have a big problem. How can I modify the registry settings after
deploying, since if I close the emulator, it will lose the deployed files.
I've tried the emulator's save state function, but it seems it doesn't save
the registry settings?

Oh it is quite unhappy as I watch my time disappear trying to figure this
out. If anyone can offer insight, hints/tips I would so much appreciate it.
Thank you kindly,

Ben

With PPC 2003 emulator you need to use remote tools that are installed with
eVC 4.0 and PlatMan 4.0

Hi Alex,

Sorry for the late reply, have only recently had a chance to try it out,
have installed eVC4sp2.. basically it doesn't seem to work for me :(. I try
running ...Windows CE Tools\Common\Platman\bin\wce420\ceregedt.exe, as it's
the newest one on my drive: 14/03/2003 10:53p 151,552 bytes but no go :<..
Any ideas? Argh.. I'm thinking maybe an uninstall of everything and then
reinstall, what a pain, I'm more like an installer/uninstaller vs. a
software developer.. Only problem with this idea is that I've already done
this twice though I didn't try running the wce420\ version of ceregedt.

Many thanks,
Ben

AFAIR, SP2 hoses the install of the remote tools, so they won't work from
the IDE, and the SP2 versions only work with 4.2 devices. Try an older
version, maybe from eVC 3.0.
