CD wizard asks for blank media,

Hi this is the scenario for me. I have been trying to use the Windows XP CD
Writing wizard, but everytime it comes up and I put in a new blank media it
does not see it as being blank.
I have been back and forth with tech support on this and no one can figure
it out. I have restored my computer and at first it works, however sometime
in the process of downloading updates, the operating system (XP sp2) starts
acting this way again. I have been very careful after trying differnt things
and did not install anything just so I would know if it were updates or my
installed programs.
other than that I still have not been able to figure this out. I have
changed the IMAP to auto and manual, I have deleted the filters, and
reinstalled everything. I have changed some registry settings with no luck at
all. even the tech support cannot figure this out. however again, I can only
tie this down to the operating system.
now the fun part. if I use burning software, roxio, or nero, windows media
player, real player etc or just about anything else it will see the blank
media and format or burn what ever you want. It plays all media movies and
cds. but the CD writing wizard will not see a blank CD.

Any suggestions.

Use Nero or any other good, commercial burning software.

XP's ability, as you see is quite limited
