CD-RW Disk Not Recognized

When I insert a blank 74-minute/650MB CD-RW disc in the drive on my Toshiba
Satellite M45-S265 laptop, it is not recognized. It's read but no options
appear as they do on my desktop. And, if I click on the drive letter in
Windows Explorer, it tells me there is no disk in the drive, insert a disk.

I'm running XP-home on the laptop and XP-multimedia on the desktop.

Any help would be appreciated.

It is possible to have a CD drive with a defective laser or just a
low-quality drive.
If that CD-RW reads in most other machines without trouble - I'd say you
meet one or more of those criteria.

(Also - you named the laptop - but not the drive. Without looking up the
laptop model - I don't know if it comes with a CD/DVD burner at all - maybe
it doesn't and the drive just has nothing to do with a CD-RW.)

I found your laptop specs and it is a DVD/CDr drive. It should work.

Try this: My Computer, right mouse click on your DVD/CDr drive, select
Properties and then select the Recording tab. Is there a check mark next
to Enable CD recording on this drive?
