CD-Rom's stopped working!

E

Erik McKay

I have an LG CED-8080b CD/RW and a Samsung SD-608 DVD-ROM.
My problem is somehow over night they both disappeared
from My Computer and Windows in all. Under further
inspection I found the same error with both the drives as
i was using the standard MS CD-ROM drivers. The following
is what i recieved:

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware.
The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

The driver signer is: Microsoft Windows XP Publisher
and the version of driver is: 5.1.2535.0

I also took the trouble of checking the driver info in
driver manager and they display with no sign of problem.

Also to save people the trouble of mentioning I have
already Uninstalled the driver and restarted the computer
to recieve the same problems. I have also tries to find
drivers for the devices to replace the ones which seem to
have the error to no avail :-(

Any help is HIGHLY apriciated!
Erik.

Goto http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.php#problems
See the second "problem" (read the caveats)
Run the provided registry patch

That should fix your problem (basically, a filter driver is missing or
non-operational, the registry patch will delete the filter drivers
references for your cdrom(s))

Basically, the reg file from above carries out the steps displayed at this
