cd dvd rom drivers

Seems that my cd rom driver is corrupted.

I need a driver for a Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-R2212 on a Hp Pavilion xt375
laptop.

There are no valid drivers on my C: drive and since the cd rom does not work
I cannot install from a CD.

Let's back up a minute. Tell us what "cd rom does not work" means.
Drivers to see a DVD-ROM drive are included with Windows. You do not
need to install anything. What makes you think the "cd rom driver is
corrupted"?

Drivers are part of XP.

In Device Manager, right click, uninstall the optical drive, reboot. XP
should reinstall the drivers.

And what happens if you enable it the same way.... what is the exact text of
the error message?

Remove your toshiba in device manager and also try to remove harddisk
controller(s). Widows should reload all necassary drivers after reboot
and that might help. Once I have had other problems with my DVD drive in
other pavillion notebook and it helped.

What burning software are you using, has it been updated lately..?
A good read on burning cd's in XP..
http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.php
Burning apps can add additional drivers and can cause a conflict if you have
several burning apps installed.. You might try to uninstall, reinstall your
primary burning app..
Review this link, it may apply, your call..

Hope this can help..
