CD Rom will not work

I have an ASPIRE Laptop, with Windows XP installed on it, the problem i
that the cd rom will not "respond" i put a disc in, the cursor change
to a spinning cd, then nothing, i can't eithen re-install the drive
(as the drive won't work.
Any ideas...please, (hopefuly apart from buying another cd rom - tha
there might be a simple reason)

If the drive won't spin, then the drive is broken. You can test if this
is Windows or hardware by booting with a rescue cd such as Knoppix or a
Bart's PE or some other bootable cd. If the drive doesn't work, then
you know it needs to be replaced. Contact Aspire tech support for
repair/replacement.

Given the issues you have with removable media, perhaps the problem is
something like Norton Auto Protect causing the interference?
