I spent 3 days trying to find an XP driver for the Matshita CR-589 32x
CD/ROM. The company was bought by Panasonic and is also known as "matsushita/
Panasonic".This driver supposedly exists , but I sure cant find it. Any help?

Built into XP.

XP should install the optical drive automatically provided you have
installed it correctly.

It did install a driver for the cd/rom, but it works very slow, I was trying
to find an updated driver, the one installed is very old

There is only the "standard" XP CD rom driver for Windows. There is no
updated driver.

If you tell us the hardware specifications and what exactly is your problem,
someone may be able to "guide" you in correcting thist.

The deal is I was trying to play "Riven" and the game ran poorly, especially
in transit screens, when info is beinig loaded from the CD. I met all the Sys
Reqs, and the games troubleshooter suggested you find an updated CD/ROM
Driver. Since I have recently updated drivers for the Chipset and the
Graphics Adaptor and been pleased with the improvement, I was trying to do
the same w/ the CD/ROM. Since then it has become very clear to me that there
is only one driver for XP.
However if you have any other suggestions as to why this game is
running so poorly, Please post back..

Try enable use DMA in Device manager for the IDE channels, or if not
available. Perhaps installing the Intel Application Accelerator for
Intel chipsets or VIA 4in1 driver for VIA chipsets would help for DMA
access.
