CD/DVD Drive Audio Problem

I have a Compaq Presario V2417AU with a GCC-4244N CD/DVD Combo Drive. My
system crashed recently and since I re-installed everything the CD/DVD Drive
won't play audio properly (very choppy). The general Windows sounds play
fine but if I play an Audio CD or a DVD in the drive the sound is terrible.
The video is fine.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can fix this problem. The HP website says
to install a firmware update but its for a GCC-4243N and it won't install. I
can't seem to find a driver for the GCC-4244N?

I hope someone can help!!

After you reinstalled Windows, did you install all the drivers for your
hardware? If not, you need to do so. This means drivers for the
motherboard, audio, video, etc. If your machine didn't come with a
driver restore disk, go to Compaq's website for your specific model
computer and download the drivers and then install them.

I tried that but it didn't help.

What caused you to reinstall Windows? What does "my system crashed"
actually mean? The more details you can give, the more help you can
get.

Hi,

My laptop kept shutting itself down and restarting. If I turned it back on
it would close down and restart again, over and over. I could not get it to
stay on. Ever since then I have had the choppy audio problem but only in the
CD/DVD drive.

It sounds like you have hardware problems. Contact the laptop mftr.'s
tech support for repair/replacement because there are very few hardware
problems on a laptop you can fix yourself.
