CD Burning software

A

Anthony Deane

I'm annoying myself writing this, but can anybody recommend any software
that will allow you to make a direct copy of an Audio CD. Like in Nero,
when you just insert the CD and make a copy. Something just very simple.

I've looked at CDBurnXP but it doesn't have that capability. Can you do it
with ExpressBurn/Deepburner?

Any help appreciated,

Anthony

Note: Updates are NOT necessary for the program to work, just give you
the most up-to-date version. Some updates give support to new burners
so if your burner isn't recognized, try the updates.

DadiOH,
I went to that site and read it through. Looks to me like BurnAtOnce,
described by Chris Myden at this page:

http://www.chrismyden.com/nuke/article.php?sid=179

might be a better choice. Chris says that this is so because Sony CD
Extreme doesn't always work well for everyone and BurnAtOnce does. The
latter supports ISO9660:1999 which allows for filenames up to 207
characters in length. Chris says to do the following in BurnAtOnce to
get long filename burning:
---------------------------------------------
Download, install, open, click on "Mastering", "Data CD", "ISO
Settings", put a checkmark beside:

- ISO9660:1999
- Joliet Names
- Long Joliet Names
- Rock Ridge

Burn away, filenames can be up to 193 characters in length.

I have used this software for the last several months burning ISO images
and making copies of CD's and have never had a coaster. When I use a
popular commercial product, it seems about 1 out of 4 CD's end up as
coasters.

Is there any CD Burning software that is capable of (1) retrieving the
space from a "coaster" and making it availabe for futher use..?

and / or

(2) converting a cd burned a s asingle session to multi-session mode and
recovering the unused space (for example Puppy Linux uses only 50 meg
of the of >700meg otherwise, available on the blank.

Apart from the lingering effects of a great deal of scotch consumed in
my youth, I would like to (1) use the full disk instead of only 5 -7 %
of the space and (2) keep as many bits of plastic from the landfil
sites.

I don't know the answer to your exact questions but if I find I need to
recover data from a useless CD I use either Isobuster or BadCopy Pro, both
of which I have as freeware old versions. Freeware downloads might be a bit
tricky to find now however. Both allow you to recover data but not to
convert a dead CD.

dear "candy ass" corliss,

its nice to see you are reconsidering the path you have chosen and are
now considering entering a drug tratment program. and while you're
finally on a mental roll, you may also want to consider the fact that
your morbidly obese ass direly needs jenny craig.

good luck!

John:
There was (is) no data to be recovered just the space, which
would be wasted otherwise and the cd ends up in landfill. Unlike the
floppies (the magnetic media is recovered & reused) with CDs no such
choice and we will be out of landfill sites. No doubt, there will be
Govt regulations about disposal..

Any links to the freeware version of Badcopy Pro?

Harsha,
Dadioh might know about something that can do this.
However, for future reference the best way to do this is to use CDRWs
like you would a CDR. In other words, don't try to format them for UDF
AKA "drag and drop". The UDF format is notorious for ruining CDRWs and
IMO should never be used. Instead, burn CDRWs just like you would a CDR
and they are about as reliable as a CDR when used this way. You can
erase CDRWs easily and reuse them, no special software needed. Most
burning software will erase them.

Don't waste your time BillR. "/3iff" is a master troll who uses sock
puppets, munges his header info, posts anonymously and uses other means
to cover his tracks. He's a coward and a fool who eventually will get
his (or her or maybe even it's) karma. Here's a page (s)he(it) set up:

although I would bet (s)he(it) will deny it.

Very good idea John. Thanks. I will try that from now on especially
for small isos :)
