The following error message only occurs, when I shut down windows (restart ).
It appears only for a short time after Windows says "It is shutting down",so
that it is on a black background, disappears immediately, then windows
reboots.the only way I can read the text is to take a Digital Photo the
instant it is on the Monitor.
across the top in a blue background it says: ccSvcHst.exe - Application
error, Red Circle with white X and says: The instruction at "0x059a2df"
referenced memory at 0x059a2df" the memory could not be written
click OK to terminate the Program. the numbers sometimes change to
"0x005388d1" referenced memory at "0x00000001. Does not happpen every time I
reboot but frequently. I have run A-Aware SE, Avg anti Spyware, Windows
Defender,Norton anti-Virus 2007. No virus, spyware found. I have no clue as
to what or why this happpens, but has been going on for about a month at shut
down only. I would appreciate some help for a beginner. thank you. Lydia

Hi Lydia,
This Executable process is belonging to Symantec, try to run the liveUpdate
and see if that will help get Rid of the Error message.
If you got an error or the message say no update are available then your
only solution is to uninstall the NIS 2007 and download the Removable tool
from the link below to get rid of all NIS traces then try to install Symantec
again.

Download Norton removal tool from here:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
HTH.
Let us know.

Hi "nass"
thank you for your advice.I used the link and downloaded the removal
tool, printed the instructions, saved it to desktop, and followed
instructions. Then removal tool said removal completed and to restart
computer. Which I did,Instructions say your computer may be restarted more
than once & may be asked to repeat some steps ater computer restarts. Mine
rebooted and that was it no further instruction. I waited 10 minutes no other
instructions. So I thought I'd try to reinstall & inserted Norton AV 2007 CD
and it started, I clicked (first window), on Install NAV,read license
agreement & clicked I agree.NOT prompted for a product Key. Installation
panel opened ,next & clicked on start scan in pre-install Scan panel, it
scanned for few minutes and a setup progress bar filled in & completed and
disappeared and that was it,no further "next "or anything. No prompt for
product key,I removed disc and saw Norton listed in Control Panel add &
remove. It was not listed in: Start, All programs, there was a redX O nthe
word Norton in system tray.I tried again using removal tool to uninstall and
reinstall from the Norton disk, but same thing happened. I looked in MY
Computer, Program Files, and saw Norton AV listed, I right clicked and hit
delete ,the last time before trying to reinstall.
I'm not sure what to do next. Whether to struggle with Norton AV 2007, it is
just not installing properly, or try some other AV & ? buy Nod.32 anti
-virus, or Avg free anti-virus. I'm not concerned about the cost, just want
to get an anti-Virus program running that will be effective and easy to use.
One other question I read in SmartComputing Magazine to search for *.temp
files and delete them. I found 1695 files some as old as 2004, and some
recent as Jan. 2007. I was unsure if it was safe to delete them?
I appreciate your advice. Thank you Lydia

Hi Lydia,
I will uninstall Norton First with the removal tool and then Download this
tool and locate all the traces for both Norton and the Removal Tool and check
the box for them and delete, but be sure you are not deleting something
belong to the system read it first and see if it an orphans left by Norton in
both the Windows files/folders and the Registry.
Here is the tool:
http://www.purgeie.com/delinv/index.htm
After removing all traces or orphans for Norton and the Removal tool Reboot.
Run this command by opening the Run Command:
sfc /scannow click [OK] and wait for it and get your XP CD handy you may
be asked by the system to insert it in.
Also be sure the Norton CD is Clean, sometimes our fingerprints can smear
the CD and make the Laser beam misreading the CD, by clean it gently by soft
cotton cloth and run the installation for Norton.
If still no Joy then Go ahead and download the free AVG or Avast both are
pretty good, to download avast go here:
http://www.avast.com
Also downlaod this for anti-spyware:
http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php it is free
also you need a Firewall try to get the free ZoneAlarm from Zonelabs.
HTH.
Let us know.

Hi, I read where someone else was having this same problem and they tried Ccleaner. I've had this program but haven't run it in a while. Ran the Registry cleaner and rebooted. Error is gone! You can download this freeware from: http://www.ccleaner.com/. I'm using XP Pro and this little program did the trick. Good luck!

Dear Nass:
After I unistalled NAV2007, no longer received the "ccSvcHst.exe" error
message. iI called Symantec ref. problem trying to reinstall NAV2007. After
repeated attempts to reintall with their Tech, getting a new CD from store,
where I had purchased the product. Still would not install. It would start
installation then became "Unresponsive". Tech said there was a conflict
with my computer.
He said he would send me an improved version. Symantec sent me link to
download "Norton Internet Security 2007", which I did and installed it on
2/12/07 without any further problems.
Thank you for your help and interest. Regards,Lydia

Hi Dave: thank you for the link.
-- Symantec solved the conflict problem by sending me a link for Norton
Internet Secuity 2007, and Unintalling NAV 2007. I will download the
cccleaner, although I have been using Easy cleaner from a Internet class on
how to speed up your computer from Cnet.com. i will have to learn how to use
cccleaner. thank you all again.

yes I upgraded from NIS 2006 to NIS 2007 just a week ago and am getting the
same error message on shutdown. I contacted Norton via a "chat" and the tech
support person instructed me to open task manager > processes > ccSvcHst.exe
end process > restart . which I did and it seemed to fix the problem for a
day but the same problem is now occuring again ... Also since upgrading to
NIS 2007, when I look in control panel > security center , it reads " the
security center is currently unavailable because the secuity center service
was not started or was stopped , please restart the security center service
and restart the computer " I have tried to restart the security center
several times via control panel > adminisitrative tools > services > security
center > automatic > apply > start ..... and this turns it back on untill I
shut down and start up next time and then the security center service is
turned off again . I am very securiy concious and run Spy Bot S&D , Adaware,
Windows Defender and NIS regularly and get all the various updates and don't
want to miss any Windows Automatic Updates Thankyou Plumbpete

The Security Center is not available because NIS turns it off.

I really don't know all of what Norton does to screw up your computer. I
don't allow Norton or McAfee on any of our computers.
