Categorize incoming email with cateogy

C

Charles Leung

I am running OL2007 on XP Pro SP2.

I would like to categorize incoming email with category. Currently, I put my contacts into different categories and set up search folders by category so that I can read email for a particular category. I created rule with, for example, "assigned to family category", "assign it to the family category".

My interpretation to the rule is it picks up category defined in my contacts folder and puts in the incoming email. Unfortunately, it didn't do what I intend it to do. Is there any wrong with the rule or do you have any clue to make it happen? Thanks.

the short answer is your rules do not make sense.
Part 1 is which conditions do you want to check. Here you chose "is in xyz category" that means the rule will be applied to email you receive which is already in that Category. i.e. the sender categorised it
I think you need to use the conditions "from Contact in a specified Folder or something like that. You will need to put each Category of Contact in a separate folder to do it.

your interpretation is wrong. Rules do not interact with contacts beyond reading email addresses.
