Cascading folders on Start Menu / My Computer

On my Windows 2000 computer, I can point to My Computer on the Start Menu,
then select a drive, and then drill down as many folder levels as I like, all
within the Start Menu. On my XP computer, pointing to My Computer on the
Start Menu shows me a list of drives, but doesn't let me list the folders on
those drives. Can I make XP behave like 2k?

there is a folders button at the top of windows explorer. you can click on
that and the tree pane will appear which you could use.

hope this helps.

Thanks, but I prefer how Win2k works. It lets me navigate to the folder and
file I want without leaving the Start Menu. Can't XP do this?

If you right-click on the Start button and choose Properties, you'll
find options under the Classic menu to expand various items. I think My
Computer is one of those items. I don't have an XP box on right now to
check, but in any case here's a link showing how to make XP's interface
more like Win2k that may help:

With Classic Start Menu...
Right click the Start button
Properties
Customize button
Expand Control Panel

Expand Control Panel
[[Specifies whether to display the contents of Control Panel in a menu
instead of a window.]]

Expand Printers
[[Specifies whether to display the contents of the Printers folder in a menu
instead of a window.]]

Well put a shortcut to My Comp on All Programs.

Just like obsolete versions of windows.

Thanks for the ideas, guys. I did it, but it's not as easy as you thought!
There is no Expand My Computer option in the Classic menu, and the XP start
menu 'My Computer : Display as a menu' option doesn't work, but you can do it
as follows:

1) Go to the XP Start menu, right-click on My Computer and check Show on
Desktop
2) Switch to Classic Start menu
3) Right-click on the Start button and go to Properties | Customize, then
click the Advanced button - this opens the Start Menu in Windows Explorer,
and its contents are just a Programs folder
4) Drag the My Computer icon from the desktop to the explorer window, so you
now have a Programs folder and a My Computer icon in the Start Menu folder
5) You now have a fully cascading My Computer entry in your Start Menu!
(Unfortunately this only works for the Classic start menu, not the XP start
menu.)

It does on the All Programs menu (where it now also is), which is a almalgm of classic Start (above the line) and classic Programs menu. Go to XP Start Panel mode and look. Any folder shortcut will cascade here. Note normal shortcuts do not. If you create a shortcut to your shortcut you will create a normal shortcut to that folder. This will not cascade.

Oh yes, I see that I have a cascading My Computer in my XP Start menu All
Programs section, above the line, now. I missed that before. Thanks for your
patience!
