Can't validate XPHome Upgrade

My original OS was ME. My objective is the cleanest
install of XP Home possible. I have reformatted. My pc
mfgr. (tech, supported ME only) suggested that I could
load XP and when prompted, insert my ME restore disc to
validate that I was eligible to use the upgrade version of
XP. Several attempts to do so failed and I was advised
that my only choice was to reload ME and then load XP. My
problem is that now ME will not load after numerous tests
and error checking etc. I have reformatted several times
now. There appears to be a problem with the restore disc. I
am not very pc savvy. I should add that my pc tech support
held my hand through my numerous and time consuming
attempts. So, these conclusions are not just my own.

From my reading, I see that even the Upgrade version of XP
is complete. Does anyone know a way to load my XPHome
Upgrade or at least help it recognize my ME restore disc?
I am pretty desperate now and will appreciate any
suggestions.

Thank you,
CBarnes

First, rarely do restore disks qualify as they usually cannot be read by XP
setup for that purpose. It's looking for an actual Windows OS CD, not a
customized restore CD, hence, it doesn't recognize the media.

Second, you need to contact the computer manufacturer. The problem is with
their disk and/or restore procedure. You need them to talk you through
this. Their restore routine is non-standard as their disk is non-standard
so they must help you with this.

If you have access to some other Windows media, 95, 98, 98SE, that are
retail versions, you can try using one of those as they do qualify and if
they are retail, should be recognized by the XP Upgrade Setup routine.
