Can't update manually?

Hi all,

Automatic updates are turned off. When I go to manually
update 2KPro it gives me an error box that says I have to
have automatic updates turned on, tranfer agent active and
one other service. I turned on both of the services it
requested but did not turn on automatic updates. I have
been able to do this in the past but now I can't. Has
something changed? I don't like automatci updates since
I have had friends that have had computer crashes after
their computers where updated so I like to control the
process myself. I usually do a restore point or a backup
before I update just in case. So what's going on?

thanks,
charles....

You can have the Services Automatic Updates and BITS turned on (Automatic
Updates - Automatic), (BITS - Manual) ... but leave Control Panel |
Automatic Updates off (or set to Notify but don't download and install).

If you set Control Panel | Automatic Updates to just notify of downloads
...., then you can manually go to the Microsoft Update site and
download/install. Ignore any messages from MS stating that Automatic
Updates is not configured correctly, and do you want MS to fix it.

Leave SERVICES.MSC Automatic Updates set to Automatic and started, and BITS
to Manual.
