Can't thumbnail files

(Windows XP Home and Word 2003) I have several files of graphics that I use
periodically in a publication that I edit. They had a .pcx extension and I
could view them before inserting them if I used the "thumbnail" option for
viewing files. Suddenly, I cannot do that. I cannot see them until after I
insert them into the document. I must have done something to cause this but
do not have any idea what I might have done. Can anyone suggest something
that will again allow me to view the graphics?

Ed, you may have to recreate the file associations. Go here for further
info. Thanks to http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm
File Associations
Fix file associations from the Command Line: Did you leave the Always Use
This Program To Open This File option
turned on? Do you want to change it back so it prompts you to specify a
program each time? To delete the association
with that file type, at the command prompt enter the command ASSOC.EXT=
[where .EXT specifies the extension of
the file type whose association you want to delete (e.g., .WAV for wave
files)].

Now whenever you double-click on the file of that type, the system will ask
you what program you want to use to open
the file. For more information:
