Can't switch between profiles in Outllook

I have 2 profiles with these settings in Control Panel>Mail>Show Profiles:
When Starting Outlook Prompt for a profile to be used. When I first open
Outlook the prompt appears, but if I close the Outlook Program and reopen it
for the purpose of switching to another user, the prompt window does not
appear and Outlook automatically opens the Profile I had prevoiously open.
I'm using Windows XP with one (administrator) user account and Outlook 2007
Can someone please help? Are there any other ways to switch to another
Profile? Or is there a way to bring up the Prompt for a Profile Winow?

That means Outlook did not exit. The causes for that are well documented
here.
Some common reasons why Outlook will not shut down completely when you click
either the X or Exit:
1. PDA synchronization software with your PDA in the cradle.
2. WinFax Pro (especially 10.02 in Outlook 2003) - contact their support
for an alleged fix.
3. Franklin-Cover Plan Plus!
4. COM Add-ins.
5. Mail reminder add-ins that keep a stub of Outlook open in the background
to check for new mail and fire reminders.
6. Anti-virus/firewall programs that are set to scan incoming and outgoing
mail.
It's up to you to figure out what's in play. We can't do that for you.

Thank you for the prompt reply! I have gone through the suggestions but need
a little more help.

1, 2 adn 3 don't apply.

4. I checked my COM add-in and made all of them inactive. This did not solve
problem. Do I need to disable them to really see if they are causing the
problem?

FYI: The only active add-ins are a)Google Desktop Outlook Toolbar b)
Microsoft Outlook Mobile Service c) OneNote Notes about Outlook Items d) Plaxo

5. I'm not sure what Mail Reminder Add-Ins are. Where would I look from
them? In the Trust Center?

6. I use Eset's NOD32. I could not find anywhere in the settings to stop
scanning ingoing and outgoing emails whilst Outlook is closed. Other than
stop scanning incoming OR outgoing messages alltogether. But I don't think
that's a good idea anyway. FYI, I have a router which I believe has a
firewall.

Is there something in your initial suggestion that I've missed. If not, do
you have anyother suggestions where to look.

It definitely makes sense that Outlook isn't exiting because sometimes when
it is closed, I get the little pop-ups in the bottom Right Hand Side of my
screen notifying me when email's are coming in after I've exited Outlook.

Never use Google Desktop Toolbar if you expect Outlook to work.

Thank you for sending me in the right direction. The culprit was Skype. First
I just closed Skype but then went to View menu in Skype and unselected "Show
Outlook Contacts" and I can now run Skype and Outlook concurrently and switch
between profiles.

So thanks again for the help!

Never use Google Desktop Toolbar if you expect Outlook to work.

Outlook 2007 takes longer to run down than prior versions. Wait longer to
give the prior profile more time to close. I'd wait one minute.

Only when the other profile closes completely will you get prompted when you
start Outlook. Perhaps you have something interfering with Outlook's
