Can't send mail

Okay...I've tried all the suggestions, but nothing works. I cannot send mail
from my Windows Mail account. It shows up in the outbox, but goes nowhere.
I'm about ready to totally dump Vistas and reload XP. Any suggestions on
either?

Have you tried WMUtil to clear the outbox?
If so what happened?

Are you running Norton or Mcafee ,Vista incompatible,
antivirus software?

Any error message?
Did you try deleting the messages in the Outbox?
If one or more can't be deleted, you will need to use the Clear Outbox
function of the WMUtil program:

I uninstalled McAfee and went with Avast first of all. There is one message
hung up in the outbox that I can't delete, but the others have been deleted.
However, nothing gets sent.....I also tried the WMUtil, to no avail.

When you say you used WMUtil to no avail could you be more specific?

I've not heard of a single case where the utility failed to clear the
outbox.

What happened when you ran it, error messages etc?

Unable to access database was my latest reply....

Was that the full message?

Did you see something like "Unable to load DLL 'scxout.dll?"
in which case re-download the utility and ensure that you
run WMUTil.exe from a folder that contains scxout.dll.

(scxout.dll is one of 2 files, the other being wmutil.exe,
that constitute the utility.)

Was the "clear outbox" button grayed out?

If so it may also be worth double checking that you
followed the instruction...

"If Windows Mail is open, or if a current WinMail.exe process is running,
the Database functions are disabled, and the WinMail.exe process must be
terminated before these features can become available. (If WinMail is closed
and these buttons still remain disabled, then perform a CTRL-SHIFT-ESC, and
under Processes find WinMail.exe and click on it, and then click the End
Process button.)"

ps. In Taskmgr, ensure that "show processes from all users" is ticked.

Thx for the help Julian. I finally got it to clear the outbox, and now I can
send once again. We'll see how long it lasts this time.

as Julian,
I am having exactly the same problem in the same situation you helped Dan
with in the status discribed on 7/26/2007 2:59 AM PST.

I use Vista home premium.
I have 3 email accounts which worked fine for a few month.

In the mean while messages do not get out of the out box from 2 email
adresses.
One is still working fine.
The messages in the outbox I cannot delete, are send from the blocked email
outboxes.

I am just an average user and have trouble copying your instructions to Dan.

I downloaded the WMultil but need some more help to follow your suggestions.

I closed Winmail, checked if iWinMail.exe was closed through ctrl/alt/del.

You instruct : "run WMUTil.exe from a folder that contains scxout.dll."
How do I do that ?
I realy hope you can help.
Thanks.

When you download the utility it should create a zip file called wmutil151.
The zip file contains two files which must be saved to the same
directory/folder.
