I can receive mail but can't send. I verified the e-mail account info.
Here's the message:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'x', Account: 'Matt', Server: 'smtpauth.earthlink.net',
Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

************
Any help would be appreciated.

Your settings look good. This problem may be caused by your
antivirus. Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee
or Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see

I appreciate Gary's suggestion, but why did Microsoft allow this to happen?
I so regret getting Vista. My wife said, "Get a Mac, get a Mac,..." and I
didn't. I regret that now. Dealing with nonsense like this is beyond
frustrating. It probably is my Norton, but both Microsoft and Norton said it
was Vista compatible. So I am not particularly happy with Microsoft, Norton
and Dell for selling these software components as a compatiple system.

Unless you have used a Mac before, switching from a PC to a Mac
involves a pretty steep learning curve.

I don't think Microsoft ever told you that Norton AV is fully Vista
compatible. Microsoft has no control over the quality of products from
third parties.
