I also have the same problem - can receive but can't send email. The reason
I'm given is as follows:

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

I've been to my ISP and was not successful there, and I've also gone into my
account and ticked the 'authentication' box there but the problem is still
there.

If anyone can help us both, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Hendo

You left off the most important part of the error message. It should
look something like this:

Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

If that is the only recipient you are having trouble with it sounds like
something is wrong with their email address, or you typed it wrong,
maybe there is a capital letter in there that shouldn't make a
difference but is doing so anyway. Has the recipient actually blocked
you by accident?

Try sending one to me and see what happens, I know from the spam I get
there's not much blocking this address :) I may not get to see it but if
you get a bounce message from here maybe it will help diagnose the problem.

Is Tiscali your provider where you are now? Your IP address is from Opal
Telecommunications in Irlam, Manchester. If you are not at home and your
provider where you are is someone other than Tiscali then the Tiscali
server is telling you it declines your request to send. If you are at
home then maybe a call to your provider will solve this, they may have
changed something and not told you.

G

Geraldine Reilly

talk talk are my provider now, I used to be with tiscali but I still use my
tiscali email address.

There's something flaky about the mailbox for that recipient ([email protected]).
I tested it and got the same error message. Do you get a similar error message
when sending to other recipients? If not, it is strictly a problem with the recipient's
mailbox. If the problem happens with many or all recipients, then we need to
look into it a little deeper.

That error means you were attempting to send while connected to a
network other than Tiscali's. Port 25 SMTP is restricted in that your
Internet connection must come from the same network as the one
the server is on. Are you using a laptop away from home? Let us know
your circumstances, and we can provide a workaround.

G

Geraldine Reilly

Not working away from home still using the same connection I normally would.
Since I've had the laptop I have never been able to send emails only receive
them.

D

Dave

Then you should be using Talk Talk's email servers and email account.
I would think that the Tiscali email account should become invalid since
you're no longer a customer.

G

Gary VanderMolen

Well, you didn't really answer my basic question as to whether you are
sending from a different network than Tiscali, but I see that in your
response to Charlie that you admitted changing your ISP to Talktalk.
In order to be able to send, you will have to change your outgoing
(SMTP) mail server to the one provided by Talktalk.

There's an aapt.com.au, so check if that email address is correct.

Glad to have helped, but I'm not sure how that happened.
Your issue seems to have been quite different than the one being
discussed in this thread.
All is well that ends well.
