Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled.

I just bought a laptop (ACER)-fist time user of both laptop and Vista and use bellsouth email and hotshot high speed wirelsss.

What a joke! Radio Shack techs couldn't even get the emails to send!! I've spent hours with a stiff neck to boot on this thing. I'm taking it back tomorrow and sticking with PC's and XP.

Sure hope Microsoft comes up with something better than Vista.

I think you have to type in mail.bellsouth.net on both the pop3 and smtp thing when it asks for it.

What you are experiencing is normal. For a fuller explanation see
http://www.postcastserver.com/help/Port_25_Blocking.aspx

As a general rule, the owner of the SMTP server must match the
entity providing the Internet connection.

The available workarounds are as follows:

1. Use webmail for sending (via your browser).
2. Ask Bellsouth if they have a port other than '25' for SMTP.
3. Substitute the SMTP server belonging to your connection provider.
4. If you frequently send from different Wi-Fi locations, get a free
Gmail account, configure it for POP access, and use it for sending.
Gmail uses port 465 for SMTP, which is not blocked like port 25 is.

Wendy,

I don't know about Hotshot wireless, but many ISPs block smtp access to all
but their own servers. From example, I have MSN email through Qwest but
when I am at another location where the ISP is Bresnan cable, I cannot send
mail using my normal MSN server. Somehow this is supposed to prevent
Bresnan users from originating spam or using commonly known spam gateways
when spambots or viruses take over their computer. Does your Hotshot
wireless account provide an smtp server for your use? If so then you will
have to use that one.

Earle
