Ginny

When I try to send from Windows Mail I get the following messages.

The host 'smtp.ctcn.net' could not be found. Please verify that you have
entered the server name correctly.
Subject 'Test', Account: 'Windows Mail', Server: 'smtp.ctcn.net', Protocol:
SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

Account: 'Windows Mail', Server: 'pop.ctcn.net', Protocol: POP3, Server
Response: '.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

This has been a problem since I have had Vista for about 6 weeks. Help!

The SMTP server name is not correct. I can't find the correct SMTP server
name on your ISP's website, so give them a call.

Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It provides no
additional protection, it may be causing the problem, and even Symantec says
it's not necessary:

<QP>
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.

If still no joy, contact your ISP to make sure you're using the correct
settings.

Mrs.Stapleton. Do not hijack another post for your problems.
Start a new post and describe your problem in detail.
Remember we cannot see your computer and you have to give as much detail on your problem as you can.
exact copies of any error messages is the best information.

I responded in the thread "Cannot send mail due to SMTP server error".
Please don't post the same issue in multiple threads.

Hi Gary,

Thank you for your help on my problem. I took the server name from my
account on the ISP site but when I called my ISP tech support and got the
correct SMTP server name it was different.

Thanks
Ginny

Good to hear that fixed the problem.
I don't think much of ISPs who fail to publish their correct mail server names.
