Can't Select Toolbars

R

Robert Freyre

Howdy,
currently running Win XP MIE 6.0.8..., when running IE, i
select view>toolbars and all the options are greyed out.
The only thing available is "Text Labels." However, the
toolbar names are greyed out. If anyone can help me out
i'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Hi Robert,

The restrictions that are available to Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=823057

If that not help, reset the Toolbar positions in the registry:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_toolbarfix.htm

Option 3: Remove all brower restrictions using this fix:
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/reg/IE_reset_restrictions.reg

The Registry key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet

does not exist. what's up with that?

Ok, actually i found the keys they were talking about, i
guess i was reading it wrong. When I did find them, i
couldn't see any thing it was referring to. So i tried
the other two methods, the second method, helped in that
the toolbars showed up, and when i go to
view>toolbars the ones that are checked are there
however, i don't want them all to be there.
you see, my problem is that i can't select or de-select
which ones i want to show. And the third option i have
tried, but have not yet restarted my computer, i think
that's why i saw no effect. If however, i do restart it
and see that there is no effect, then i'm out of options
for now. If anyone can help with my problem assuming the
third solution doesn't work, i'd greatly appreciate it.
I'm going to restart now so i'll update in a few minutes.

Robert,

Reiterating the scenario: You have all the toolbar positions reset, but still have the View > Toolbar sub-menus greyed-out?

Backup these keys and delete both "NoBandCustomize" and "NoToolbarCustomize"

[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoBandCustomize]
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoToolbarCustomize]

And, you need to check if the restrictios is set in Group Policy editor [for XP Pro only].

Open GPEDIT.MSC and goto:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Administrative Templates | Windows Components | Internet Explorer | Toolbars
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disable customizing browser toolbar buttons set it to "Not configured"
Disable customizing browser toolbars set it to "Not configured"
Configure Toolbar Buttons set it to "Not configured"

I agree that he is the best.
Had the same problem and deleting the two registry entries
did the trick at once.
