Can't see my camera as a removable disk

I'm running Windows XP on a Dell laptop, and trying to
attach a Casio QV-R4 digital camera to it, by way of a USB
connection.

Everything appears to work OK when I connect the camera up
and switch it on - ie. I get messages to say that new
hardware has been found, and it recognises the camera
model. In the 'Safely Remove Hardware' section, the Casio
plug in has been located without problems.

BUT ... once this is done, I can't get access to the
contents of the camera! It doesn't appear as a removable
disk under 'My Computer', neither does it appear when I go
through the 'Control Panel>Cameras & Scanners' route.

When I check the System Device settings no problems are
reported. There is plenty of life in the camera battery.
The USB port is working fine. I've even re-installed the
driver and this made no difference.

Has anyone got any suggestions? This all worked fine
first time with my old box running Windows 98 SE - and
they call this progress!!

Right click on My Computer and select Manage. On the following screen,
click on Disk Management.

The removable drive should appear on the right hand side of the screen. You
should be able to assign it a drive letter from here.

I am also having a problem getting the pic's from my digital camera. It is a Olympus Stylus 300/400 digital. First I used the wizard to try and add the hardware, but its not a choice. So I went to the Olympus site and downloaded the appropriate software. i am now getting an error message stating that one of the usb devices attached to the machine has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it. After going through all those help screens I am still not able to do anything. I am running XP professional. PLEASE HELP!

I think I have a similar problem. I had to reinstall
Windows last week. Then, I had to reinstall
applications, drivers, etc. That took some time, but
everything seemed to be fine...except the camera.

Under CONTROL PANEL, the camera, a Canon G3, icon shows.
The camera is also listed properly under DEVICE MANAGER.
But the PICTURES command, GET PICTURES FROM CAMERA OR
SCANNER doesn't recognize it, nor does the camera icon
show in MY COMPUTER.

The result is I can't download any pictures! This is
something of a professional crisis; if you find a
solution, please let me know.

Thanks, and good luck!
