Can't save jpeg files!

Hello... I didn't know what my problem qualifies as, so I
posted it here. My computer runs on Windows 2000 and I
run a website for a non-profit organization. I download
animations and graphics from a pay website to use and
recently I've noticed that I can no longer save them as
the jpeg or gif file they are supposed to be... only in
bitmap. The same goes for music files, all music files
are wav, not MP3... if I look on my computer, all the
files that I have saved in the passed have also changed
from jpeg or gif to bitmap and mp3 to wav.... I don't know
how to fix this... if there is some setting or something
that got changed... I would really appreciate help on this
matter!! THANKS!!
