So absolutely nothing happens when you click Send?
Which antivirus are you running?

correct...the send/receive messages window opens for barely a second and
closes...nothing else happens...am running norton 360 antivirus...no probems
prior to now...haven't changed anything or added any software either

Norton antivirus is among the top three troublemakers for Windows Mail.
Symptoms often don't start until months later.
The only way you can prove or disprove that Norton is the culprit is to
uninstall it, followed by using their debris removal tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Another option is to upgrade to Windows Live Mail, which is more
resistant to the adverse effects of aggressive antivirus products:

In any case you must disable any antivirus email scanning, for the reason
explained here:

help.

"POP3" is not the correct name for a mail server. You get the correct
mail server names from your email service provider.
You used a Verizon.net email address. Is that your email service provider?

Unfortunately, Verizon has four different kinds of email service, so you
will have to pick out the one that applies to you:

If you get an error message after following those instructions, copy it
and post it here.

I am having the same problem. I have my E-mail account with godaddy. Below is
the error message I am receiving. I can receive E-mails. I cannot send them.
I can reply but then they don't go out of my outbox.

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'Re: STINGRAY INVOICE - Account#: 2651', Account:
'Merril', Server: 'smtpout.secureserver.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 80,
Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

I am having the same problem.
A lot of people are having the same problem.
I have been told its my antivirus (OneCare).
BUT A lot of people having this problem have different antivirus and
different ISP.
Since it seems that a lot of the posts I see say the problem started with in
the last few weeks (I think).
I am wondering if it was caused buy an update by Microsoft (but I don't know
this..just a guess).
Can you tell me what antivirus you are using?
Also if you find a solution can you let me know?

That server does not work with the SSL option.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Advanced.
Uncheck the SSL box for the outgoing (SMTP) server.
Also go to the Servers tab and make sure that the box for
"My server requires authentication" is checked.

Don't assume that your issue is identical to someone else's.
If you would like some custom help, right-click on your error message,
copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without that complete error message.

That's not the complete error message. Right-click on the error message,
copy, then paste it into a reply here. We can't do much troubleshooting
without the complete and verbatim error message.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no protection not provided by the regular
resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee,Trend and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail
and Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of
Trend's anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.

I have copied and pasted the error message I am receiving, but here is is
again:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Emailing: CWfrontdesk-1',
Account: 'Merril', Server: 'smtpout.secureserver.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port:
25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
My computer is brand new. I only bought it Sunday. I have turned anit-virus
programs off. I h ave turned off the Windows firewall. I have triple checked
to make sure that all the E-mail server information is correct.
For incoming I have pop.secureserver.net and for outgoing I have
smtpout.secureserver.net .
Is there any other info you need to help me?

Thanks,
Merril Lane

See the above reply, also I have McAfee through my Comcast cable modem. Also,
now I am getting a request when I try to send mail to connect to the
internet via dial up and I don't use dial up.
