Cant reinstall windows xp?

C

Comp man

I try to reinstall XP but cant every time it gets to 6 percent, a pop up will
occur that say C:\1386\DRV\DTA\DTA.LST want recover. I dont know what that
means. Thats all it will go to and thats it. My computer is an emachines
and the warranty has ran out. By the way I ran it from the installation disk
that came with the desktop. Someone please help me so I can get this
computer like factory condition again. Thank YOu.

When all else fails, read the instructions. Manufacturers always provide a
way to restore the machine to an "as shipped" condition. Read the instruction
manual to determine what you are doing wrong. Repost here when you have
learned what you are doing wrong so others can learn from your mistake.

I can find a reference here, to DTA.LST

"Installation Stops Responding at 97% Using Recovery Media to Format the
Drive and Perform a Full System Recovery "

http://support.gateway.com/s/issues/2-1747069601.shtml

(Apparently Gateway owns Emachines now ?)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emachines

I interpret that, by reading some other articles, to suggest
the Emachines CD, is attempting to copy files from the CD
to a separate recovery partition. So it needs that partition
on the hard drive, in order to work.

You might also try using your favorite search engine, and enter
the model number of the computer, to see if anyone has described
the particular procedure for that computer, in more detail.
