Can't reduce size of drive C: enough

Hi,

I have just bought a new computer with vista and a 750go hard disk. I
now want to reduce the c: partition to a minimum - I always do that
with my computers, I would like to reduce it to about 100 go and have
a "data" partition with the rest.

But when I try to reduce the size of c: , I can only reduce it to 350
go. Do you know why ? With XP I never had pbs reducing to whatever I
wanted.

The built-in shrink utility will be able to decrease the partition size till
it bumps against the first unmovable/locked system file.

If you want to decrease the partition further you will need a 3rd party Disk
Management tool. I use Acronis Disk Director suite (ver 11.0 build 8027).
It is 100% Vista compatible.

After installing the above program, create the emergency CD. Reboot the
computer and boot up with this CD. Do your partition work from there.

You will not be hampered with locked files.

No need to do it all from the CD. Make all the changes in Windows and
if there is a need to exit Windows to unlock/move files, ADDS will
reboot and then perform all the operations.

Great, thank you. One last question : Will the backup / restore
functionalities built into Vista / HP (there's a HP back up thingy
here) still work if I do this ?
This is important fort me of course.
Thanks again everyone.

Yes, the Vista and HP "thingy" will continue to work.

It might be a very good idea to perform another Full backup once you have
confirmed that everything is working, configures as you required/expected.
