Can't play DVDs with Media Player 9

When I try to play a DVD with Media Player 9 I get a
message that "Media Player has encountered a problem and
needs to close." I send the error report, click on "more
information" and it says that the problem is with a
filter manufactured by InterVideo. That company makes
WinDVD, another DVD player installed on my computer. It
shouldn't have anything to do with Windows Media Player
9. I downloaded DirectX 9 and that didn't help. Can
anybody tell me what's wrong?

WMP does not support DVD playback on it's own; it needs 3rd party software
such as WinDVD installed and it will then use that programs codecs to play
back DVD content. If you reinstall WinDVD it should start working...
