Can you post the exact error messages in WHOLE and per verbatim. Then maybe someone

Try going to tools>accounts>your account>properties>advanced tab and remove
the check marks from SSL>Apply>OK

Now try it?

Post any new error message.

I had Sympatico a while back and I do not recognize **pophm.sympatico.ca** Maybe you
should call Ma Bell and ask them for the correct pop and smtp server names for your
location. I cannot give you the ones that I had since all are different and depends
which province in Canada you reside in. 12 Provinces and 12 Capitals and 24
different pop and smtp server names

Rog, go back to the advanced tab of your account, change port 110 to 995,
select the SSL Option for both the POP 995 & SMTP port 25 servers
again>apply

I have already done that.....spent an excruciating amount of time online
with a Bell person (India?) just went around in circles...now I feel I have
more problems.
See new message I now receive......
The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'test',
Account: 'pophm.sympatico.ca', Server: 'smtphm.sympatico.ca', Protocol: SMTP,
Server Response: '530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first', Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 530, Error Number: 0x800CCC78

OK, this time go to the server tab and select outgoing server needs
authentication>apply>ok

You did select SSL for both servers on the Advanced tab I hope?

OK I had a look around and found this
http://service.sympatico.ca/index.cfm?method=content.view&content_id=9287

First off check all your settings against those described at the site.

If you then can't use the account remove it again, close WM re-boot even!!

Now rebuild the account from scratch.

If that fails then you have a problem, that is most likely caused by your
anti virus application, what do you use?

Best of luck.

You can try different outgoing ports, on the advanced tab outgoing server
try 465 and then try 587, test each one, if they both fail do what I said a
few minutes ago.

Thanks ...I've been to that site ad nauseum....just a cycle of pain! like
most help sites it is limited to advising me that all is now fixed ......but
it lies!
I currently have antivirus s/w turned off.The provider has recommended port
995
Thanks for the advice anyway...I will attempt to call for help and pray for
someone who speaks English.
I will once again remove account and reinstall...reboot....
For now I will go back to real life and try to resolve this later.
You may hear from me again
thanks

Port 25 is correct, but the SSL option must be enabled.
