can't open web

B

bill haughee

When I try to open my client's web site - I get the
error "The folder 'http://www/site.com' isn't accessible.
The folder may be located in an unavailable location,
protected with a password, or the filename contains a / or
\.'
I get the same symptom even when I open the site with Word
(it opens read only with no login prompt). If I open
other sites - I get the anticipated login prompt.

I've looked for bogus instances of personal web server -
IIs etc... to no avail. We are not using a proxy server
so it doesn't appear that is a factor.

The workstation is XP Pro SP-1 abd we (were) using FP 2002.

Any ideas?

I'm going to assume that this with the extra / is a typo:

Try opening the site using http://site.com

....if it's not a typo:

The folder "http://Website" isn't accessible. The folder may be located on
an unavailable volume or protected with a password.

I just tried opening the site from my office (whole different network and system) and I get the same error. So the problem is not with the machine I was working from, it is the site. (I confirmed that I can open other web sites).

Thanks for your reply Steve - you are correct about the typo - I meant http://www.site.com

I even tried opening the site by IP address this morning and got the same error (from a completely different system.) So it appears the problem is with the site (last night I was assuming it was with the system I was using).

Thanks again,
Bill

Thanks for the reply Tom,

Today I learned the problem is with the site and not the local system. That appears to weed the KB articals you pointed me to to the first one (260755). Don't really know how I can get there to check it our though (maybe FTP in?)

Thanks again,
Bill

Not thru FTP
Contact your clients host and advise them of the problem
- have them check permissions
- point them to the KB articles

Fixed it by resetting FP Extensions on the site (it is hosted on an Apache Server with Ensim Appliance and that seems to get wiggy from time to time
