can't open .rtf file

When attempting to open an rtf attachment I am getting the
following message, "Can't create file: filename.rtf. Right-
click the folder you want to create the file in, and then
click Properties on the shortcut menu to check your
permissions for the folder."

I do not get this message on all .rtf files though. Any
ideas?

Does the error happen when you save the attachment to your hard drive?

yes. I get the same error whether I try to open or save
the file.

I've had this problem only on OEM copies of Office XP
pro. The solution that has worked for me is arduous but
successful. I have to create a dummy user on the
problematic system, then move all of the user information
into the dummy user, the re-create the user account
(delete then add), then move all of the user information
back from the dummy, then delete the dummy.

Try adding a user to your OS and see if that new user can
open the RTF attachments. I'll bet it can.

I have this problem re-occurring every now and then on
all 4 OEM copies of Office XP Pro.

If someone has a better fix, I'd love to hear it.
