can't open *.pdf files in internet explorer 6.0

hello,

even though i have the acrobat reader installed on my computer, i can't open
*.pdf files in internet explorer 6.0. all i get is a red cross in the top
left corner. does it have to do with my internet explorer settings or my
acrobat reader?
