I.E.6.0 and Acrobat Reader 6.0 don't interface

I have installed Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0. on a machine
running Win98 SE. When I ran IE 5.0 the .pdf files always
opened in Acrobat 5.0, but since I have upgraded to
Acrobat Reader 6.0 and Internet Explorer 6.0 the .pdf
files from any internet site are unable to open correctly.
The new window, which is empty, does open with a
placeholder icon in the upper left corner. I am able to do
the work around of "Save Target As.." and opening the page
once it is saved locally, but this is troublesome frankly.
Is there a fix or patch that allows direct viewing access
to any .pdf file off the internet? Is this a problem
specific to IE 6?
Appreciate any thoughts on this one.

I've tried the fix(s) both Adobe and Microsoft offer. They
are ineffective in this case. Even opening Reader 6.0,
minimizing it, and opening a new IE browser with a .pdf
attached does not work. This is a Dell Dimension 866
machine, well past the minimum specs Adobe wants to run
Reader 6.0
Any other ideas?
