Does it work, if IE8 was removed ?

I doubt there are any handles in the registry, either open or closed, so of
course it is never there.

Unless you are speaking about a relatively new fix from Ramesh,
it sounds like an old fix for file associations that he has had for two years.
The current problem started with the release of IE8, not all that long ago,
and is not related to file associations.

Hi Gary,

I do not have IE 8 installed. I read everyone's comments and am wondering
if I should try Ramesh's fix?????

What is the exact error message you get when you attempt to open a JPEG
attachment in Windows Mail?

Hi Gary,

The message I getting is: "Windows cannot find 'mime-attachment.jpeg'.
Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again.'

But I don't have to type anything. I just click on the attachment and that
message comes up.

Thanks,

Hmm, that sounds like the IE8 error. Open your Internet Explorer, click on
Help, About Internet Explorer, which will show you the version you have.
I know you think you have IE7, but sometimes it will update if you're not
watching closely at what you are agreeing to.

Hi Gary,

You're right. I do have IE 8. So what does that mean? Is it a good idea
to uninstall IE 8. I didn't think I had it because I keep on clicking on
"Ask me later" when the pop up comes on asking me if I want to install IE 8.

Thanks,

Yes, uninstall IE8 by following these instructions:

Hi Gary,

Thanks. I uninstalled IE8 and it automatically went back to IE7 and I am
now able to open the jpeg attachment.

Thank you so very much and have a nice day.

Hi Gary,

Now if I could only get my spell check to work in WM, I would be a very
happy person. Remember me, I'm the one who you tried to help with my spell
check in the Fall. You advised me to install WLM and when I did, I had
trouble with getting all my folders transferred over---some didn't come and
some came with nothing in them. But I'm managing with spellchecking in Word
and then sending the email. It's just one little step and it's not that much
of a bother.

Thanks for all your help in the past and current. Have a great weekend.

I do have a vague recollection of that WM spelling issue. I remember
hitting a dead end on that one.

Have you tried doing a manual import from within Windows Live Mail?
File, Import, Messages, Windows Mail. You can select just the folders
that gave you trouble before.

Hi Gary,

You know that was so long ago, I think I tried everything you advised. I
even called Norton's and they uninstalled Norton's and the spellcheck still
wouldn't work so he reinstalled in back. He even used the removal tool. I
think I just gave up on everything. Someday when I feel like playing around,
I might try it again.

My mom just passed away on 5/26 and I'm still very much in the grieving
process. We were very very close and I'm just now trying to get to come back
to the computer. So it might take me a while to do some of these other
computer related things.

Thanks for the advice again and hopefully some day, I try to install WLM
again and if the folders do not come over the correct way, I try to do them
manually.

Take care and have a good weekend.
