Can't open attachements

Proplem after auto update to IE8.
Read a couple of previous posts and threads. Set properties to open in
"%UserProfile%" as suggested. Attachements then opened okay. Started
WindowsLiveMail and it impoted folders from WindowsMail. However they didn't
import properly. Also attachements now will not open in Windows Mail even
though open in is set as mentioned. Folders and mail still seem okay in
Windows Mail except for problem with attachements.

How is best method to clear folders in WindowsLiveMail and then have it
reimport from Windows Mail?

The most reliable workaround for the attachments problem in Windows Mail
is to uninstall IE8.

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed, is your
subscription current, and is it supported in IE8? What anti-spyware
applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)?
Were any of these applications running in the background when you installed
IE8?

Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine
(e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)?

Just asking for now!! Do NOT use such a Restore Point yet!! => Do you have
an available Restore Point which predates the install of IE8?

NB: Uninstalling IE8 (cf. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700) should
resolve the behavior but you should not have encountered it in the first
place if IE8 was installed properly. See...

i had the same problem with power point -
this is how i fixed it
click the start button -
un pin the short cut for windows mail
click on all programs and then right click windows mail
click on open and that was all i needed to do
if it works for you
then pin windows mail to the start menu and you should be okay
