cant open an access program on network

I've come across a situation where if I try to open a MDB file on a
shared network drive, nothing happens. Access doesn't start (either
with
access 2000 or access 2003). the properties of the database are set
for Shared.

However, I can always open it from the open menu in access. Any
suggestions on how I can open it by shortcut .

We've had the same problem many times. You can open a file on another PC no
problem if you open it through Access, but if you do it via a shortcut you
get either nothing happens or you get an "are you sure" warning.

Don't know why but the following has always fixed the problem for us:

"Not sure whether this is an IE settings or that it's just a way to get at
them, but the fix is: Go to IE->Tools-> Internet Options -> Security ->
Local Intranet -> Sites and uncheck "Automatically detect intranet network"
"

Near as I can tell Microsoft "security" means security against the owner of
the computer being able to do useful work. Plus making sure that users
encounter lots of "are you sure" messages in the course of routine work so
that Microsoft is secure from getting blamed for problems.
