Can't mirror disk

I'm running Windows 2000 Advanced Server with SP4. I had mirroring set up for two drives. One of the drives failed so I removed it (I didn't have a backup drive to immediately replace it). I changed the configuration back to a "Simple" layout. I then installed the replacement disk and set it up as "simple" after creating partitions to match the working drive

Now when I try to turn back on mirroring, I am unable to do so. When I right-click on the drive, "Add Mirror" is greyed out. The only choices I have are Open, Explore, Change Drive Letter and Path, Properties and Help

The drive status for all four partitions (2 partitions per drive are as follows

Disk
------
Volume= C: Layout=Simple Type=Dynamic File System=NTFS Status=Healthy(System) cap/free/%free Fault Tolerance=no Overhead 0

Volume= D: Layout=Simple Type=Dynamic File System=NTFS Status=Healthy(System) cap/free/%free Fault Tolerance=no Overhead 0

Disk
------
Volume= New Volume: Layout=Simple Type=Dynamic File System=NTFS Status=Healthy(System) cap/free/%free Fault Tolerance=no Overhead 0

Volume= New Volume: Layout=Simple Type=Dynamic File System=NTFS Status=Healthy(System) cap/free/%free Fault Tolerance=no Overhead 0

I am logged on as Administrator. I get the same results if I log on to the domain or the local machine as the administrator

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Brad,

From the Windows Help file: "Any existing simple volume can be mirrored
onto another dynamic disk, as long as there is sufficient unallocated space
on that disk. If you don't have a dynamic disk with enough unallocated
space, the Add Mirror command is unavailable. (To verify you have enough
space, right-click the disk, click Properties, and then check the size in
Unallocated Space. This size may be slightly smaller than shown in the
graphical and list views.) "

Does this help?!?

Cameron:)

Cameron,

You know what--I read that part of the help documentation several times
but still couldn't get the mirrors to work. When I read your reply it
dawned on me that I had created partitions and formatted the new drive,
therefore the space was allocated! Therefore the mirroring didn't work.
Once I deleted the volumes on the new drive and returned the entire drive to
an unallocated status it worked.
Thanks for replying--I appreciate the help!

Brad

Brad, I'm glad to know that you're up and going again.

When you're bombarded with "help" data, sometimes it's just good to know you
are looking in the right spot!! ;-)

Take care,
Cameron:)
