Can't Microsoft stop the virus postings on their newsgroups?

The subject says it all. I thought these were managed newsgroups.
Where's the sysop to keep spam and viruses out?

In case people aren't aware, we at OSR host two "members only" newsgroups on
behalf of the driver development community: one for Windows system software
developers, and the other for Windows file system developers -- each with a
few thousand members world wide.

You must join to post or read, you may participate via email (like listserv)
or via newsreader (where you supply a username and password). The lists are
virus scanned and no attachments are allowed. Almost all of the experts and
MS folks that are active on this lists are also active on those lists.

Everyone is welcome to join:

No, these are not managed/moderated newsgroups. They are carried
separately on news servers all over the world, exactly like alt, comp, rec,
sci, talk, etc. Microsoft managed the create messages, but that's only by
convention.

When they started, the microsoft.* groups were hosted at
news.microsoft.com, so you had to log in to their server to fetch them.
Now, they're public.

However - we do monitor the groups for content and may remove posts that
breach the published "Rule of Conduct" at
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/conduct/default.mspx
This is done both automatically and manually.
(Not all news servers honour our removals so if you use your ISPs replica
then you may well still see of these posts.)
We are working to remove and prevent further instances of these posts.

Thanks for the explanation. I was unaware until now that other news
servers were hosting these groups.
